How I work
I am warm and engaging, committed to the people I work with, and open to talking about any topic without judgement. Rapport is important to me. I spend time understanding my clients and getting to know who they really are, and that can’t be rushed.
My care is tailored to each person. I keep my practice personal so that every client receives my full attention.
Training and qualifications
I hold an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice from Liverpool John Moores University and an MA in Health Research from Lancaster University. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), registration number NCS 2300638.
My health research background helps me work with people who have complex health histories or presentations, bringing both clinical understanding and genuine curiosity to their experience.
From the UK to Melbourne
I trained in the UK and worked there with clients worldwide. I now do the same from Melbourne, Australia, working by video and phone with clients across Australia and internationally. I do not currently work with clients based in North America.
Lived experience
I am neurodivergent, diagnosed with ADHD. That lived experience informs my understanding and my practice.
Trauma-informed, inclusive and non-oppressive
Safety, choice and trust run through everything I do. I am committed to inclusive, non-oppressive practice. Whatever your identity, sexuality, relationships or background, this is a space where you are safe to talk about all of it, including experiences of discrimination.
Safety and mindfulness
On my YouTube channel, Laura Wood-Holden Therapy, I share series on emotional safety in therapy and on mindfulness. The same ideas shape my sessions. Read about them here.
